Gary Young, retired engineering manager: It is lamented that far too few of the electorate have any real understanding of the hard sciences. This lack of understanding has given rise to embracing poor (junk) science at even some of the highest levels of academic and political thought. The current concept of most concern is all the political rhetoric about renewables such as solar and wind providing our energy. There is only one well understood technology at the present time that could produce vast amounts of power in addition to fossil fuels and that is nuclear. We are held back from the nuclear solution by unfounded fear. The root of the fear is the very wrong doctrine of “liner no threshold” concerning the biological effects of radiation. In truth, there are thresholds and almost nothing in science is linear.

Calvin Beisner, Cornwall Alliance: Opponents of fossil fuel-fired electricity generation play the role of those who would demand banning aspirin. They’re focusing on its comparatively minor risks and ignoring both its tremendous benefits and the ready ways to minimize its risks.

Amory Lovins, long time anti-nuclear power advocate: As the Italian proverb says, arithmetic is not an opinion. So let’s do the math. Renewables and efficiency cost less than operating many nuclear plants. That's right, arithmetic is not an opinion, but garbage numbers and unsound assumptions into the arithmetic leads to worthless numbers out. Same for computer models for climate science. "Efficiency," code for using less energy, obviously costs less than producing energy. The public listens to what they want to hear. So his article, celebrating the agreement with Friends of the Earth and the Natural Resources Defense Council to close the last operating nuclear power plant in California will be music to anti-nuclear power advocates and a sad tragedy for most of humanity and the environment. Lovins talks about "carbon" not carbon dioxide. Carbon is diamonds. Carbon dioxide is a colorless, oderless gas that is essential for all life! So he wants to do the math!!

America’s nuclear energy plants are a vital asset providing reliable, carbon-free electricity to tens of millions of households and businesses around the country. The ANS circulated a petition authored by a 3rd party. It is to be sent to the White House to support existing nuclear power plants. Physics Professor Emeritus, William Happer, Princeton University and Physics Professor Emeritus Howard Hayden, University of Connecticut support nuclear power but refuse to sign the petition because it improperly demonizes carbon dioxide from fossil fuels. Dr. Theodore Rockwell, in 2010, explains that the issue of CO2 from fossil fuels ranks 9th among priorities for the American public with regard to benefits of nuclear power.
